Don’t run an hour after dinner

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 9:53 pm

Due to the snowstorms, I headed to the gym on Wednesday and Thursday night.  My goal on Wednesday was try to match, DATC’s 10k performance on the treadmill which was 53:41.  I was able to run in 53:38 but was gasping for air afterwards.

On Thursday, I finished dinner at 6:30 pm and attempted to run about an hour+ later at 7:45 pm.  I intentionally tried to run slower, finishing 5k in 29:38.  But, my stomach started to hurt immediately after the run and most of the evening.  I should have known better.  Lesson of the day, don’t run one hour after a heavy meal.  In my experience, there should be at least three hours in between a heavy meal and a run.  I did enjoy the tofu with mushrooms plus a Filipino dish called binagoongan (pork sauteed in shrimp paste).

Ice Planet Hoth

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 7:56 pm

The city looks like the Ice Planet Hoth from Star Wars.  Work was cancelled today because of the snow storms and the havoc created.  I can’t even get to the gym for a treadmill workout.  These winterstorms over the past few weeks have not been conducive to long runs outside.

I read about these treamill exercise in a magazine called Running Times, which is also published by Rodale, the publisher of Runner’s World.  I will attempt two other treadmill exercises next week.  It is stil very cold so the treamill is my new best friends.  Temperature was abou 16 degrees Fahrenheit today with lots of snow.

Cold reality bites

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 12:27 pm

It has been 8 days since I last ran.  I have been sick and so have amost half the people at work.  The human body is just not built for a long spell of single digit to below zero temperatures.  For most days over the past week, Ohio was colder than Alaska.  I have to accept reality and hibernate.  Although I feel slighlty better, I think that treadmills will be the way to go for the next few weeks due to the extremely cold weather.

Back from Phoenix

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 1:00 am

After three straight days of about -10 degee Fahrenheit temperature in Ohio, I headed for a four day break in Phoenix.  I was hoping to do some running to enjoy the 60-80 degree temperatue.  Unfortunately, because of the terrible weather in Ohio, I got sick the night before leaving for Phoenix and spent most of the time in Phoenix sick and unable to do any physical activity.

Well, I am feeling better today now that I am back in Ohio.  Weather has improved.  It is now a balmy 16 degrees Fahrenheit.  Perhaps I will attempt another Jason Bourne time trial and try to match DATC’s 53:41 … although his is more impressive because that was a real race.

Jason Bourne’s “Running The Sahara”

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 3:10 am

Jason Bourne narrated and produced the documentary “Running The Sahara,” which is now on Showtime, the cable network.  Ever runner should watch this well-crafted documentary.

For people without a subscription to Showtime, I recommend purchasing the DVD as a good investment.  Trust my investment advice, I only lost 15% in the market last year 🙂

Total 6.2 miles – 53:52

I beat Jason Bourne again.  More on Jason Boune on the next post.

Trapped in snow

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 2:43 am

This week wil be challenging.  The snowstorm has paralyzed the city.  It takes forever to drive from point to point so no use going to the gym for a treadmill run.  There is about a foot of snow outside and thus, no possible way to run.  Only one run so far this week.  I’ll be lucky if I get three.

2.0 miles goal completed

Filed under: Uncategorized — workaholicrunner @ 3:13 am

2.0 miles time goal for 2009 is 16:30.   I had a 1.0 mile warm-up in 10:55.  Then I started on the goal.  First mile was at 8:27.  Second mile was at 7:57.  Total time of 16:24, barely beating the goal by 6 seconds.

After 12 days so far this year, I have completed three of the seven goals.   Next goal is the 5.0 mile one for 46:30.  Then probably the 1.0 mile goal of 7:40.  I think the 13.1 miles and 26.2 miles goal will be challenging.
